Tea Shop Associate

SEEKING TEA ENTHUSIASTS – Learn about TEA, work in the tea industry at a cool, locally owned business.

About the position – duties will include the following:

  • 18-30+ hours/week Tuesday – Saturday (Saturday required)
  • An interest in learning about camellia sinensis – the tea plant – and tea in all its forms.
  • Ability to commit to longer term employment as training takes 2-3 months.
  • Help sell tea and process online orders for takeout, pickup and shipping
  • Assembling packaged tea products
  • Deliver brewed tea and light food offerings to in-house customers – we are moving to counter ordering so this is not a waitressing position
  • Simple food preparation
  • Dishwashing of delicate teaware and dishes
  • Cleaning of tearoom kitchen, prep areas, retail shelves, dining tables, high-touch surfaces and bathroom
  • Restocking
  • Regular inventory of tea
  • Enthusiastically educate customers about Camellia Sinensis – Tea!
  • Adherence to best practices in regards to health and cleanliness of the tearoom to minimize the spread of COVID19 and other viruses.

Requirements:

  • Weekend and hours into the early evenings required.
  • Hours for shifts are between 11-7.
  • Minimum of 3 shifts per week with Saturdays required.
  • Previous food industry experience a plus
  • Must be able to stand on your feet 6+ hours/shift
  • A positive attitude, being able to work as part of a team, fill in for shifts when needed, learn the responsibilities of the job, and an enjoyment for working with the public is a must.
  • Must be mature, responsible, clean, be able to talk to customers of all kinds, have good personal hygiene, and be able to multitask and analyze a situation in a fast-paced environment.

  • This role will start at minimum $17/hr guaranteed plus cash tips.
  • Raise(s) based on performance and passing tea training to become a skilled brewer which takes ~2-3 months.
  • Up to 8 hours of pay for learning the material outside normally scheduled hours upon passing 3 quizzes and becoming a Devotea!
  • Employee discount of 20% on food and treats, tea and teaware! 50% on meals while on shift.

  • Shifts are 6-8 hours long
